Evangelicals Shouldn't Vote - They Should Pray

In the article below The Rev. Ken Hutcherson admits he doesn't believe in his God. At rallies designed to get his sheep to vote, presumably Republican, he tells them that:

A. They should go out and vote to secure the sanctity of heterosexual marriage
and that
B. God will take care of the vote.

It strikes me as odd that he is resorting to the very same methods of influencing this election as distinctly secular (and quite possibly pro-homosexual, liberal, atheist) groups such as MTV's Rock The Vote. Where is his faith in God? In Prayer?

Now Christians have been attempting to demonstrate that prayer is a useful and functional way of healing - sometimes in addition too and sometimes instead of more established and scientifically tested medical intervention. As one of the posts below discusses, they have even duped the US Federal Government to spend over $2mil testing the value of intercessory prayer.

So I propose that Christians can show the depth of their faith by not voting this election season and fervently praying instead. After all, if they are willing to put the lives of loved ones in dire need of, say a blood transfusion or methods which may someday come of stem cell research, into the hands of God, then why not the election? As even viewers of Fox News must be aware, according to the polls this is a very tight race. There are probably too many factors to use previous models of voter behavior to call this one. And people are frustratingly fickle.

Put you money where your mouth is and put your faith in God. Don't vote. Pray.

We already know that the good Rev. Ken Hutcherson doesn't believe in the power of God - which makes him a cheap, lying, charlatan. Now every Christian man and woman has the chance to demonstrate their faith in that power. And remember, every vote cast by a Christian for either candidate is a vote against God.

God is in control of the Nov. 2 elections

OK - I can't stand the man. He's a strutting, idot boy king. It makes me sad beyond description that there is even a possability that he might win. A sufficient portion of the American electorate wants so desparately to belive that they are fighting the good fight, that American might is unbeatable and that it is used for Peace, Justice, and whooping some terrorist ass that they eat his shit up.

Perhaps there was a time when The United States was an intrepid force of good against the evils of the day but that time is certainly and very sadly not now.

Weird Sex Laws

:-)

An excerpt from brilliant Kentucky state legislation. "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club".

The following important amendment however is to be considered here: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to females weighing less than 90 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds, nor shall it apply to male horses."

In Oxford, Ohio, it's illegal for a woman to strip off her clothing while standing in front of a man's picture.

In Ventura County, California cats and dogs are not allowed to have sex without a permit. :-) WTF???

More Weird Sex Laws

Now I see why it's called The Good Book

Couldn't say it better!

Gotta love a NY Times medical article containing the words, "The Yuck Factor"

Another reason why religion is evil

The New York Times > Religion: Group of Bishops Using Influence to Oppose Kerry

Mixing religion and politics is, of course, nothing new. That many evangelical and born again churches are blatantly partisan and little more than Jesus freak republican clubs is also old news and their hypocrisy has simply become part of the landscape in the Land of the Free. But the Catholic Church, which has been searching for relevance since Galileo, should think twice.

I understand and even respect people with deep convictions doing what they deem necessary to live by them. If Archbishop Chaput feels the need to remind his sheep of RC teachings it seems a bit odd that he leaves out, “…traditional church concerns about the death penalty or war…” when discussing stem cell research, abortion, and gay marriage.

First (the) Dick Chaney says “Vote Repub. or die in a horrible terrorist blaze” and now we have “Elect Bush or burn in hell forever. (Unless you vote Dem, go to confession and get forgiveness, of course.)

A Pic for the bycycle racing enthusiast girls...

The fist sex / nudity post to this blog. Hee hee.

The Feds spend over $2mil studying PRAYER??? Another reason religion pisses me off.

News / Bible Study
The New York Times : "Intercessory prayer"

Religion pisses me off so much. To be clear - all religions piss me off - not just Christianity (though many of its current incarnations in the US are particularly good at the job) or Judaism or Islam (though some of this "ancient wisdom's" adherents aren't any better than the afore mentioned X-ians) or any other.

In a nutshell, teaching that faith is as or more important that observation and rational thought when attempting to assess reality is bullshit. It leads to things like President Bush going to war because he firmly believed that Hussein was a threat (and that God had called upon him so to do). It leads to the US government spending over $2mil to study the healing properties of prayer. It leads to messianic idiots deciding it's time to die along with their congregations of the deluded in Jonestowns, Wacos, and Jerusalems.

If somehow, by magic, religion could be wiped from the face of the earth by dawn tomorrow most - if not all- the world's wars would end within a year. And very few would start thereafter. In Ireland - the pathetic violence would have no justification - grown men, nay brave warriors, stoning little girls on their way to school in the belief that their flavor of superstition and mythology is so much better such actions are necessary would lose it's umph and negotiators could get down to the issue of who should govern. The problems in Israel would become issues of property and apartheid. In India the regular ritual of Hindus, Muslims, and Christians killing each other on droves wouldn't have any reason.

This is a little of why religion pisses me off. To be continued…
